Things...+ edit + Ranting about Religion.

*note...

I am not advocating any of this, simply providing a starting point for speculation.

I *especially* in no way am advocating bashing religion. Although I often wish to remain anonymous with my faith online, I will in this case firmly state that I am a Christian, but I also consider myself many other things. I believe in many things (if you ever really care to know, you may ask), and one of them is that at the end, with all religions, all it comes down to is humbling yourself before God. Whatever faith (and I use the word FAITH, not religion) that comes from I think has its own valid reasons for being; at its core.

I think what they are dealing with here is extremism; of course. Because God is perfect, but religion is man made, and degrades over time; thus corrupts. Especially those with power. (even those with power of a religion) anyway.

I do think that Religion was in many ways a form of control for people a long time ago. But then again, so is government, now. I think at the core of it, if you had perfect, saintly leaders who were completely selfless in charge of a town, and if that religion was in charge of a society.. it would essentially be perfect. If anything, it would be an ideal society. Wouldn't you want to live in a world where you had free will, were loved, and the general guidelines were to be selfless, humble, and love others? Where the point of life was not to make money, but to worship something higher, something eternal.. love itself?

I think having people who believe in something higher than themselves of any kind automatically makes them better leaders when put into a position of power. I'd much rather them in charge than someone who's only interests are monetary.

Think of it. It's harder to do, because it's the RIGHT thing. Living for someone other than yourself.. if only everyone did it. If the driving force of a society was NOT commercialism, marketing, advertising and money, but instead love, respect and God, then essentially we would eliminate many problems. Debt, war, hunger, and my personal favourite, damage to the environment. The main reason we are trashing our environment is because it is too expensive to live sustainably, takes too long, we are lazy, and wasteful. If the main system was not capitalism, not something where we are only made to buy and consume, then things would change.

If only everyone thought of everyone else instead of themselves.. well.. then it would be heaven on earth.

Anyway, thanks for reading/commenting, you guys.

God bless.

Ok I watched it a little more. I love the pessimism in the video, I love how people say religion controls people. Ask any Christian, I'm pretty sure none of us ever say we've been controlled before. And no, I'm not blind either.

I agree partially with what I saw of this video. I wouldn't say that all religions are evil or controlling, but some are undeniably so. I take it that kina and the commenter are both Christians, but I also take it that you belong to churches that are clearly not trying to take over the world. I take it you're not Jehova's Witnesses or Evangelists or other such sects that demand that everyone believe in God and condemn those who do not or who believe in something else. It is religion that people use to support their beliefs on way too many occasions (such as those few Christians who tell the world that homosexuality is a sin because the Bible says so). Religion, I'd like to believe, was never meant to be a bad thing. But when used as a tool, when used to gather the masses with a purpose that affects those non-believers, that's when religion becomes a bad thing.

There is a fantastic book written by a pastor by the name of Bruxy Cavey called "The End of Religion". It's brilliant and criticizes a lot of common beliefs. It's well written and its goal is not to discourage the belief in God, very much the opposite. It encourages belief in God but at the same time suggests that believers need to go back to the very roots and essence of loving Jesus.

And just one last comment to Genesis-Orbit, religion does control people. Not all of it does but it'd be ridiculous to say it flat out doesn't. People who are controlled don't often know they are controlled.

Just my two cents. Films like this often blow things a little out of proportion, but in all fairness, so do movies that very much promote theism.
I agree, thanks for sharing that. I think the whole issue of controlling is just relative. Religion might be controlling me, but from my perspective there's a lot more to it me being controlled. And personally, movies like this just seem to promote separation. I love my religion and I've accepted that not everyone will agree with it, but disagreements shouldn't have to lead to anger and fighting, that's all this film seemed to be promoting, "religion is a tool used to control people, lets laugh at the people who are religious." It makes sense to me why people are Atheist, I wish people would understand why people are religious.

i don't like the first part much, because they glaze over a few things that I have been studying myself.. and I know them for SURE not to be true. but the second parts I think were great and very true.

organized controlling religion mind you; not faith. I'm a Christian and I don't plan on denouncing anything because of that. i just thought i'd make that clear. hehe
